FMS Corporation received two 2019 Powder Metallurgy Design Excellence Awards. The awards were presented to FMS Corporation at the POWDERMET2019: International conferences on Powder Metallurgy and Particulate Materials in Phoenix, Arizona. The competition is sponsored annually by the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF), an international trade association for the metal powder-producing and -consuming industries.

Award of Distinction, Automotive—Chassis

The Award of Distinction in the Automotive—Chassis category was won by FMS Corporation for fan clutch assembly components manufactured for Kit Masters. The components are used in cooling systems for semi-tractors and other large, diesel engine vehicles. The six powder metal (PM) parts included a bushing-tensioner retainer and an index coupler. All six parts are made from FC0208-50. The PM parts replaced machined components and offered a 60-percent cost saving.

Award of Distinction, Hand Tools/Recreational

The 2019 Award of Distinction in the Hand Tools/Recreation category was given to FMS Corporation for camshaft and water pump sprockets used in the Polaris Slingshot, 3-wheel, side-by-side motor roadster. The water pump sprocket was especially challenging, as the customer desired a one-piece shaft/sprocket design. The PM components represent a 40-percent cost saving compared with machining.
